Young’s Mechanical Solutions is on site at New Beginnings Church, installing the mechanical and plumbing systems for the church’s new Kids & Youth Center. On this project our crews are performing a substantial amount of the mechanical scope — sheet metal ductwork, HVAC equipment, refrigeration piping, the flue, thermostats, and the commercial plumbing.

One Mechanical Contractor Instead of Two
On many commercial builds, the sheet metal contractor hangs the ductwork and sets the equipment, and a second contractor follows behind to run the refrigeration piping, the flue, and the thermostats. That means two subcontractors, two schedules to hold, and one more coordination problem for the general contractor to manage.
At New Beginnings, we took the whole scope.
On this one we took on a bigger role. We wanted to try to do the refrigeration piping, the flue, thermostat — try to do the whole nine yards instead of having two different crews from our company come in here.

For the client on this project, that is one number to call, one crew to schedule around, and one company accountable for whether the mechanical system works when the building opens. When the ductwork and the refrigerant lines are installed by the same people, the handoff that usually creates finger-pointing is not there to begin with.
Sheet Metal, Ductwork, and Equipment
The sheet metal scope covers the building’s complete air distribution system — trunk lines, branch runs, equipment sets, and the flue — installed around steel stud framing and the other trades’ rough-in. Ductwork fabrication is handled in our own Harrisonburg shop, so fittings and transitions get built to the job instead of ordered and waited on.
Commercial Plumbing and Mechanical Piping
Our plumbing crew has been on this project since the earliest stage. The underground groundwork was completed last September, well before the walls went up, and the work has since moved to water lines, fixtures, and piping through the framed walls.
Underground plumbing is the part of a commercial building nobody sees and everybody depends on. Get it wrong and it is buried under a slab. Our plumbing foreman on this job, Robert Breeden, has been in the trade for more than three decades — the kind of experience that belongs on the work that gets covered up first.
The Crew on the Job
Scope is only worth as much as the people carrying it. Between the two foremen on this project there are more than fifty years in the trades, and the mechanics working under them have been with us long enough to know how we build.
Asked how the job has gone alongside the general contractor, Johnny put it plainly: “It’s been great. Great to get along with, good people. It’s all business, but everybody has a good time while we’re doing it.”
